Product Overview

Product Description

Orb-3 Lake & Pond Dry Bacteria is a dry beneficial bacteria treatment for ponds, lakes, and water gardens.

It is designed to supplement the natural microbial population in an aquatic environment, helping the pond process organic material, excess nutrients, fish waste, plant debris, and other sources of biological load.

The dry granular formula uses selected bacteria strains on a fortified grain carrier. When applied properly, it supports cleaner, clearer water and helps reduce the conditions that contribute to sludge accumulation, odor, cloudy water, and nutrient-related water quality problems.

Dry Formula Ponds Lakes Water Gardens Beneficial Bacteria
Key Benefits
  • ✓ Supports beneficial bacteria that help break down organic waste and improve pond biology.
  • ✓ Helps improve water clarity by supporting natural biological nutrient processing.
  • ✓ Helps reduce sludge accumulation by aiding the digestion of organic material.
  • ✓ Helps reduce excess nutrients that can contribute to algae pressure and poor water quality.
  • ✓ Safe for fish, aquatic plants, and humans when used according to the manufacturer’s directions.
  • ✓ Works well with aeration because oxygen and circulation help beneficial bacteria perform more effectively.

Best Used as Part of a Pond Management Program

Beneficial bacteria is a biological treatment, not an instant chemical knockdown. For best performance, apply consistently and use with proper aeration whenever possible. Oxygen, circulation, temperature, pH, alkalinity, and organic load all affect how quickly bacteria establish and perform.

Second season of using this product, and my pond is improving.

Posted by Abby on 20th Mar 2021

I'm using this in an approximately 1/10th-acre pond that has an average depth of only 3 feet. The pond is heavily sludged and I know I have a nutrient overload. I get a lot of runoff from a neighbor that loves to fertilize his lawn, so I have developed a pretty severe seasonal algae problem. I can kill the algae with herbicides but then it falls to the bottom and becomes food for a new algae bloom. This product is supposed to break the cycle by consuming excess nutrients, thereby "starving" the algae. I haven't used an algaecide this year, but started using this product at a heavy dosage and I am seeing some clearing in the shallows, where I concentrated my efforts in the name of experimentation. I know I am going to have to eventually drain and dredge again like I did in 1999 to get rid of the mud accumulation (this product only consumes organics) but maybe this will buy me some time. It's similar to other biological pond cleaners, I've used a few different brands and types (liquids, powder bags) and they all work to some extent. It takes a long time to get a big pond back in balance, believe me, it's an ongoing process. I think this product is better suited to the smaller water-garden type ponds, it's cost-prohibitive for large scale use to correct a "problem pond". But it works as intended. Do your research, and you may have to try different products to fix whatever issue you are having, but this product is worth a try. It appears to be working for me, for now. Note: This is a follow-up review, I used the Orb-3 Sludge Pellets last year. This product has a slightly different name, and I have yet to determine if the formulation is the same; the other product is not available at this time. I saw my water quality improve last year, and now that the water is warming up I've started dosing again and I believe my pond is starting to clear up just 2 weeks into treatment.

We are using this for out 5000 gallon pond. It seems to be a bit cheaper than using stinky red liquid bacteria.

    Goodbye Microbelift, hello Orb-3

Posted by Alejandro G on 20th Mar 2021

Awesome! My ponds are super clear. Goodby Microbelift, which I use to spend $250 on the bacteria. Now I spend $150 less, it's powder, which is easier to work with. And it does not stink like rotten eggs. Be a little patient, about two weeks. I want the sludge pellets next!!

I live in the high desert so my pond gets lots of sun, and therefore lots of algae. UV bulbs and an algaecide help keep it clean but lots of sludge plugs my filter system. Orb-3 really made a difference. My filter no longer plugs up every week.
