Product Overview

Universal Slow Start Control for Pond Aeration Systems

The US Solar Mounts Universal Slow Start Control is a patent-pending, first-of-its-kind pond aeration startup controller that automatically ramps up compressor runtime over a controlled 15-day cycle to help reduce the risk of rapid turnover, oxygen crash, and fish loss during aerator startup.

Starting a pond aeration system at full runtime can be risky when the pond is stratified, unmanaged, older, deep, or being restarted during warm weather. Low-oxygen bottom water can mix upward too quickly, and deeper water may contain gases such as hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. A controlled aeration startup gives the pond time to adjust instead of forcing immediate full-time circulation.

The Universal Slow Start Control replaces manual startup schedules, temporary timers, return trips, and guesswork with a repeatable engineered startup process. Plug the controller into a properly protected 120-volt outlet, plug the aeration compressor into the controller, press and hold the Start button, and the controller manages the startup cycle automatically.

15-Day Ramp-Up Gradually increases compressor runtime from 1% to 100%.
Patent Pending Purpose-built control method for pond aeration startup.
Any Brand Universal plug-and-play design for 120V aerators up to 3/4 HP.
Fail-Safe Relay Normally closed relay defaults to compressor run mode.

Why Slow Starting a Pond Aerator Matters

Many pond owners search for a safe way to start pond aeration because they have heard that turning on a bottom-diffused aerator too fast can cause a fish kill. The risk is real in certain conditions. When bottom water is low in dissolved oxygen, high in harmful gases, or much colder than surface water, full-power aeration can mix the pond too aggressively. Slow starting the aerator helps reduce biological shock by gradually increasing runtime over several days.

This controller is especially valuable for new pond aeration systems, seasonal startup, warm-weather startup, restart after an extended shutdown, stocked ponds, managed fisheries, deep ponds, and remote installations where manual timer adjustments are impractical.

No Timer Guesswork. No Manual Babysitting. No Return Trip.

Traditional slow-start methods require the owner or installer to manually adjust a timer day after day, or to return later to remove temporary controls. The Universal Slow Start Control eliminates that process. It starts at a very low runtime, automatically increases operation over the full startup period, and then returns the compressor to normal operation when the slow start cycle is complete.

Round-the-Clock Mode

Round-the-Clock mode spreads the allowed runtime across each hour. This is the default out-of-box mode and does not require the internal clock to be set before starting a cycle. On Day 1, the controller allows approximately 36 seconds of compressor runtime per hour, then gradually increases run time each day until full operation is reached.

Day-Centering Mode

Day-Centering mode creates one daily operating window centered around midday. It is useful when the goal is to run the system during the warmer, more biologically active portion of the day. This mode requires the controller date and time to be set correctly before use.

Built-In Wi-Fi Setup

The controller includes a built-in Wi-Fi access point and web interface for setup from a phone, tablet, or laptop. No cellular service, internet connection, router, or cloud account is required. The controller creates its own local Wi-Fi network so the user or installer can view status, select operating modes, set date and time, use timer functions, review event history, and manage service reminders.

Designed for Owners, Installers, and Service Technicians

For owners, Slow Start provides a safer and simpler way to start a pond aeration system. For installers, it creates a professional commissioning process, reduces manual follow-up, helps limit startup liability, and provides a customer-friendly handoff. Installer information can be stored in the controller so future service reminders direct the customer back to the installing company.

Ideal applications include:

  • New pond aeration system startup
  • Seasonal aerator restart
  • Restart after extended power loss or system downtime
  • Warm-weather aeration startup
  • Deep or stratified ponds
  • Stocked ponds, managed fisheries, HOAs, parks, farms, and remote pond aeration installations
  • Installer-managed commissioning where a repeatable startup process is required

Important: No aeration startup method can guarantee prevention of fish loss under every pond condition. A controlled slow start is intended to significantly reduce the risk associated with aggressive startup in stratified or low-oxygen ponds.
