Product Overview
Aeration Slow Start Control
Automatic Startup Protection for Pond Aeration Systems
Patent Pending
Starting an aeration system too quickly can rapidly disrupt a stratified pond. The bottom layer below the thermocline (hypolimnion) generally has a much lower oxygen concentration than the upper layer of water. Under some conditions, it may be completely void of dissolved oxygen and may contain chemicals suchas Hydrogen Sulfide and Carbon Dioxide, which are harmful to fish and other aquatic lifeforms. Mixing a pond too quickly does not allow time for the ecosystem to adjust and can cause fish kills.
The US Solar Mounts Aeration Slow Start Control is designed specifically to minimize this risk by automatically controlling system startup.
Instead of running at full power immediately, this controller gradually increases system runtime over a controlled startup period, allowing the pond to adjust safely.
No timers. No manual scheduling. No guesswork. No return trips.
Set it once and the system handles the rest.
Key Benefits
- Helps prevent fish kill during startup
- Automatically ramps aeration time using a controlled startup cycle
- Eliminates need for manual “slow start” scheduling
- Provides consistent, repeatable system startup every time
- Reduces risk for both pond owners and installers
- Easy setup using built-in Wi-Fi and your smartphone.
- Patent Pending design built specifically for aeration systems
How It Works
Once activated, the controller:
- Starts the aeration system at minimal runtime
- Gradually increases operation over a 14-day period
- Transitions automatically to full normal operation
This controlled progression allows harmful gasses to vent and dissolved oxygen levels to stabilize. This process minimizes the biological shock to the pond.
Built for Real-World Use
- Plug-and-play operation
- Works with standard 120V aeration systems up to 3/4HP
- Dual Operating Modes - Day-Centering and Round-the-Clock
- No programming required for basic operation
- Built-in Event Timer with Manual OFF/AUTO/ON
- Designed for outdoor installation
Fail-Safe Operation
The controller is engineered for reliability in the field:
Normally closed relay defaults to run mode should a failure occur.
If power is lost or the controller experiences a fault, the aeration system continues to operate—eliminating the risk of unintended shutdown.

What is a slow start controller for pond aeration?
A slow start controller automatically limits and gradually increases aeration system runtime during startup to help prevent rapid pond turnover and reduce stress on aquatic life.
Why is slow starting a pond aeration system important?
Starting too quickly can mix low-oxygen bottom water with surface water, potentially causing oxygen depletion and fish loss. A slow start helps stabilize the pond during this transition.
Does this completely prevent fish kill?
No system can guarantee prevention, but a controlled startup significantly reduces the risk associated with aggressive aeration startup.
Is this required for every aeration system?
It is strongly recommended for:
- New systems
- Seasonal restarts
- Stratified ponds
Is the controller difficult to install?
No. The unit is plug-and-play:
- Plug into a standard outlet
- Plug your compressor into the controller
- Activate startup
What happens if the controller fails?
The system is designed with a normally closed relay:
If a failure occurs, the aeration system defaults to run mode.
Can this be used outdoors?
Yes. The enclosure is rated for outdoor use (NEMA 12), suitable for typical aeration system installations.
